Frieze!

Not a reference to the air conditioning in this office that is still inexplicably pumping chilled puffs of air down my back even as the sky outside is the colour of a mushroom and winds wail down Carnaby Street so fast they knock unsuspecting tourists in giant poorly balanced rucksacks flying, but to London’s biggest annual art event.

Every October 150 of the world’s most exciting contemporary art galleries come to Regent’s Park to buy and sell work at the Frieze Art Fair. That said, of the 68,000 people who attend every year, it would be fair to say most are there for the spectacle alone rather than to purchase for their collections, so don’t be put off because you don’t have a spare couple of thousand in your back pocket or own a large empty flat with bright white walls to fill.

It runs between 15th – 18th October and although tickets are pricey (starting at £20 for a weekday ticket, £25 for a weekend) it is a great chance to see some of the most exciting contemporary art from all over the world. Details on tickets and how to aquire are here.

As I have been surrounded by artists for several years (she doffs her black poloneck and adjusts her thick framed black specs with skill) I have experienced Frieze hysteria first hand before. I definitely recommend you get down there to find out what all the fuss (and lordy, it is a lot of fuss) is about, and may even go so far as to suggest you get specifically down to area P12 where Resonance 104.4 FM are staging a ‘media playground’. I would then advise checking out the video reel of the best of Videobasement. Because it’s great. Not because it’s created by my brother or nuffink. Nepotism? Moi?
